The astonishing Amanda Muggleton IS the original diva. She creates fireworks on stage as the greatest dramatic soprano of her time – Maria Callas. After a sensational career that saw her become the undisputed star of the world’s best Opera Houses, Maria Callas conducts a series of master classes to a select group of young vocal students at the Juilliard School in New York.

In Terrence McNally’s extraordinary theatrical tribute Callas takes centre-stage one more time, as she passes on to her students, and to us, the experiences and lessons of a lifetime.

We witness her passion and commitment and realise the uniqueness of her great talent as she cajoles and lectures her students, delivering wisdom and insults in true diva style.

Amanda Muggleton is one of Australia’s greatest and most loved actresses. In a career that spans over four decades, Amanda has more than 50 theatre, film and television credits to her name.

Show: Sense & Sensibility Concert – Drama

Type: Day trip

Date: 2nd June

Time: 2pm, 135 minutes, including interval

Kate Hamill’s sparkling adaptation of Sense and Sensibility is Jane Austen on theatrical steroids. In the hands of the State Theatre Company Ensemble it will be a night at the theatre that you won’t want to miss.

The newly widowed Mrs Dashwood, under much reduced circumstances, must move herself and her three daughters, the very sensible Elinor, the wild romantic Marianne and the spirited Margaret, from their grand family home to a modest cottage. But reduced social circumstances do not lead to a reduction in troubles of the heart. Suitors circle and gossip swirls as all of the Dashwoods try to find their place in the world.

Jane Austen’s masterpiece is a precision guided literary missile of wit and warmth. In playwright Kate Hamill she’s found her theatrical match as verve and invention is brought to bear on the Dashwood’s every move.

Warning: This show contains obscene language.

Show: Calamity Jane Concert – Musical/Comedy

Type: Day trip

Date: 19 August

Time: 2pm, 150 minutes, including interval

This whip-cracking, rollicking rough-and-ready reimagining shucks off the buckskin and brings a barrelful of dirt and grit to the classic musical. Starring Virginia Gay (Channel 7’s All Saints and Winners & Losers) as the magnetic, masculine heroine, joined by a ragtag band of acclaimed comedic actors and musicians who share all the other roles.

Featuring timeless standards such as The Deadwood Stage, Just Blew In From The Windy City, Black Hills of Dakota, and Secret Love performed with piano and a grab bag of other instruments, this production injects a unique and raucous sense of spontaneity into the world of musical theatre.

Become immersed in the world of the Golden Garter Saloon – alive with whores, gamblers, and habitual jeopardy – and expect an unruly and unpredictable ride. In particular dozens of audience members seated onstage at saloon tables will be a part of the action when they least expect it!

Warning: This show contains simulated smoking, nudity, obscene language, strobe lighting and fog/haze effects. (sounds like fun!)

Show: Madame Butterfly Concert – Opera

Type: Day trip

Date: 8 September

Time: 1pm,

A man enchanted by the beauty of the East. A woman in love with the promise of the West.

Separated by a vast ocean and many years, what will become of their love?

U.S. Naval officer B.F. Pinkerton is ashore in Japan, and captivated with its beauty and freedoms. When the gorgeous geisha Butterfly arrives, he is transfixed. She falls hopelessly in love, and a passionate marriage begins.

Years later, Pinkerton has left. Butterfly waits faithfully for him to return. Dawn breaks on a ship in the harbour.

What will become of her great hope?

Puccini’s popular opera inspired the musical Miss Saigon. It is filled with gorgeous music, from the lovers’ first rapturous embrace to the intense finale. It features the famous aria One Fine Day and the Humming Chorus.

One of Australia’s greatest theatrical minds, John Bell, directs this English-language production, complete with beautiful costumes and sets and wonderful singing.

Show: The Wharf Revue – Political satire

Type: Day trip

Date: 3 November

Time: 90 minutes, no interval

Those indefatigable kings of comedy, sorcerers of satire and masters of mockery, Jonathan Biggins and Drew Forsythe are back in the saddle and gearing up for another glorious year of political satire – the stage will be bigger and so will the laughs. We like to think of it as continuity with change.

So, politicians take cover and pundits stand back, because there will be songs, there will be dance, and there will be some very funny impressions.

Join us as we sort the wets from the dries, the leaks from the fakes, and the factions from the fictions in this bigger, better and wharfier Revue than Canberra could ever handle.

Warnings:

This show may contain obscene language, simulated substance/tobacco smoking, nudity, strobe lighting and fog/haze effects.

Senior Moment Stage Show- Sydney Day Trip

Travel with us to Chatswood for a belly load of laughs. An early morning start and we are home before dark, whilst enjoying the company of like minded individuals.

After two smash-hit Sydney seasons, the hilarious comedy revue Senior Moments is back, with the legendary John Wood and Max Gillies now joining Benita Collings and Geoff Harvey in the senior theatrical sensation.

Senior Moments is a comedy revue about old people and the young people they have to deal with, with sketches and songs and performers who are old enough to know better, all making wicked fun of the trials and tribulations of growing old disgracefully.

Gold Logie winner and veteran actor John Wood (Blue Heelers, Rafferty’s Rules) is having a season of Senior Moments in 2018. Joining him in this seriously silly show for otherwise sensible seniors will be master satirist Max Gillies (The Gillies Report, Once Were Leaders), Play School icon Benita Collings, Kim Lewis (Sons and Daughters, The Restless Years) and Russell Newman (A Country Practice, Underbelly), with Midday Show Maestro Geoff Harvey on piano.

The Australian Ballet presents The Merry Widow

Effervescent romance overflowing with glamour

CATEGORY:  Dance                           DURATION:  136 minutes, including intervals.

Includes Bubbles & crackers for morning tea (& tea/coffee), Chinese lunch at Queanbeyan RSL Bowling Club & A-Reserve tickets.

Irresistibly frothy and lavishly theatrical, The Merry Widow has enough tangled affairs, narrow misses and jealous lovers to fuel a French farce. The tiny principality of Pontevedro is on the verge of bankruptcy, and the dashing Count Danilo must rescue his country by marrying the newly widowed and fabulously wealthy Hanna Glawari. Only when they meet does he realise that she’s his childhood sweetheart – and that she hasn’t forgiven him for jilting her years ago.

Based on the beloved operetta, this lively tale is set in the ballrooms and salons of Belle Époque Paris and is dressed magnificently in velvets, silks, spangles and feathers. Created especially for The Australian Ballet, The Merry Widow is a laugh-along favourite with hum-along melodies and its heart on its sleeve.

Thursday 1 February 2018 2.00pm Matinee show

In ancient times, China was known as the Land of the Divine. Everyone, from emperors to the common people, believed that their culture was a gift from heaven. They lived in harmony with the universe and saw a connection among all things. Traditional Chinese culture carried these principles for thousands of years–until this world was lost.

We now invite you to visit this lost civilisation. To make this journey possible, we have pushed the boundaries of performing arts. We combine ancient legends with technological innovations, and historically authentic costumes with breathtaking animated backdrops. We let classical Chinese dance do the storytelling, and share with you beautifully diverse ethnic and folk traditions. Filled with an enchanting orchestral sound, this is a mesmerizing experience you won’t find anywhere else.

“Absolutely the No. 1 show in the world” – Kenn Wells, former lead dancer of the English National Ballet

“This is the highest and the best of what humans can produce” – Olevia Brown-Klahn, singer and musician

Shen Yun’s unique artistic vision expands theatrical experience into a multi-dimensional, inspiring journey through one of humanity’s greatest treasures – the five millennia of traditional Chinese culture.

Breakfast Bushwalk 7am (walkers) 8.15am (non-walkers) – 10.30am
For those people keen for a walk before breakfast the guide will pick them up at 7am. There are two walks to choose from; the first is a “short” walk, and depending takes you out to Palm Glen – a lovely bushland area. The walk is approx 1.5km and there is a hill to walk down and of course come up the other side – the last 50 metres is quite steep. The other walk is what we call the “long” walk. It takes you from the Red Road area along a 3.5km track, which eventually ends up at Captain Cook Monument. This is a beautiful walk with spectacular coastal scenery. It starts off with a long uphill of about 900 metres and the remainder of the walk is undulating. If these walks sound too strenuous a guide will pick you up at 8.15am and take you straight to breakfast. You do not need to make up your mind which walk you want to do until the morning, as all walkers will be picked up at the same time. Cameras are a must and water bottles should be carried, especially for people doing the longer walks. Short walk suits people with no respiratory trouble. Long walk suits people who regularly exercise.  You then have a free afternoon; before heading off to enjoy a progressive dinner consisting of 3 course meal progressing to 3 different island homes. With nibbles you will have a glass of sherry or orange juice, main course has a glass of white wine or orange juice served, and there is tea or coffee available with sweets. We treat the night like a BYO if anyone would like any more alcohol. Along the way you will learn a bit about each of the homes and the families. Toilet facilities are available at each home, just ask the driver or the families and they will direct you to them. BDA

Day 5 – Thursday 10 May

After a leisurely hot breakfast at the Resort you have a recovery day. We will be having an early 2 course dinner before watching descendants of the mutineers bring the story of the famed Mutiny on the Bounty and historic events to life in a 1½ hour show performed in an outdoor amphitheatre on Norfolk’s western coastline. Convict outfits are provided and are to be worn on the night (desirable but not compulsory if anyone has strong objections to wearing them). These outfits are like a pair of pyjamas with pants with an elastic waist, and a button up short-style top. They are made of cotton and not see-through, so are
designed to be your clothes for the evening, not worn over your clothes (the room gets very warm and you will get too hot if you wear more than you have to underneath your outfit). If anyone would like to purchase an outfit they are $30 for a second-hand one and $35 for a new one.  BM/TA/TDA

Murrumbateman Wine Region Tasting

Saturday 23rd September 2017

Who doesn’t like a nice glass of white or red wine on a Saturday when there isn’t a care in the world of getting caught drink driving? Let us take that worry away from you with our Wine tasting tour. The Murrumbateman wine region is an award winning grape growing area right here on our doorstep.

Our first stop is – Helm Wines was established in 1973 and was one of the first commercial wineries in the Canberra District Wine Region. Helm Wines tasting room is the 1888 Toual Public School House which is listed by the National Trust and was the inspiration for the school bell featured on our label. It was once used for meetings of the Temperance League, where locals signed the pledge against alcohol.

Second – The Four Winds Story began with a miner and his wife who lived on the property in a slab-hut. Her name was Scheherazade, after the story teller in The Arabian Nights. Her favourite story describes a magic carpet being borne by the four winds of good fortune. She named this small farm in Murrumbateman ‘Four Winds’ in the hope it would carry their good fortunes. We stop here for homemade wood fired pizza lunch (not Gluten Fee)

Next, we have a break from wine tasting to taste the honey mead of old at Wins Creek Meadery. Wins keep bees in native eucalypt forests and woodlands where they produce honey from species such as spotted gum, stringybark and yellow box. This is the honey we use to produce small batches of some of Australia’s finest handcrafted meads. It’s a great place to stop.

Last but by no means least – Gallaghers Winery. Over the last forty years Greg has been involved in premium wine production in some of Australia’s best wine regions. He was the Senior Winemaker for Taltarni, in central Victoria, worked at Charles Sturt University and has also made wine in the Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, Mildura and Rutherglen areas.

$95 p/p – includes transport from the  Bowlo Batemans Bay to wine region & return, all tastings, lunch at Four Winds winery, and the expert viogniers explaining their wines.

$105 will get you picked up from the ‘normal’ bus stops between Moruya, Broulee, Mossy Point, Tomakin, Malua Bay, Surfbeach, Caseys Beach, Batehaven, Catalina & Surfside.

Early bookings are essential as seats are extremely limited.

Full payment at the time of booking. Non-refundable.
