About the show:
It is the extraordinary biography of legendary singer/songwriter Peter Allen – from his birth in 1944 in Tenterfield, NSW and humble beginnings growing up in rural Armidale to his meteoric rise to fame as an international star.
A jukebox musical, The Boy from Oz weaves many of Peter Allen’s most famous and beloved songs into his life story, including ‘Everything Old is New Again’, ‘I Honestly Love You’, ‘(Arthur’s Theme) The Best That You Can Do’, ‘I Still Call Australia Home’ and ‘I Go to Rio’. His story comes to life through beloved Australian playwright, the late Nick Enright, who skilfully weaves plot from the life and complexities of Peter Allen.
All the highs: entertainer, popstar, meeting Judy Garland, marrying her daughter Liza Minelli, Oscar winner, Broadway performer; and all the lows. His story leaps, as does Peter himself, from past to present and back to past, all within the familiar context of one of his energy-packed concerts.
