Bundanoon has over the past 40 years gained the envious reputation throughout Australia as the premier location for hosting the traditional Scottish Highland Games. Every year in April between 12-16,000 Australians, many not necessarily of Scottish descent make an annual pilgrimage to this outstanding event to enjoyand participate in the gathering known, as Bundanoon is Brigadoon.

Brigadoon in 2019 marks the 42nd anniversary of the highland gathering in Bundanoon.

Brigadoon begins with the sound of Bagpipes drifting across the village fromfirst light in preparation for a day of celebration. The Street Parade starts at 9.30am and features some 20 Pipe Bands from all over the State accompaniedby a large variety of decorated floats and marching Clan Societies.

Everyone is made most welcome at the gathering and encouraged to participate in the Traditional and not so traditional games. The committee recognises this as a The Ideal Family Day Outing and encourages mass participation by spectators and especially the children. Spectators can try their luck at Tossing the Caber, Shot Putt, Haggis Hurling, Kilted Races, Egg Throwing and Water Toss. There is also a Bonny Bairns highland dress competition for all the proud parents.

Throughout the day you can enjoy Highland and Scottish Country dance demonstrations, and for those who like to try something new you are cordially invited to join in. There are 30 Scottish Clans and Societies tents and they have their own area where many people make their way to enquire about their Scottish heritage andancestry.

This year we will have a marquis for sun shelter where you can sit on your chairs and watch the world go by.

For those people keen for a walk before breakfast the guide will pick them up at 7am. There are two walks to choose from; the first is a “short” walk, and depending takes you out to Palm Glen – a lovely bushland area. The walk is approx 1.5km and there is a hill to walk down and of course come up the other side – the last 50 metres is quite steep. The other walk is what we call the “long” walk. It takes you from the Red Road area along a 3.5km track, which eventually ends up at Captain Cook Monument. This is a beautiful walk with spectacular coastal scenery. It starts off with a long uphill of about 900 metres and the remainder of the walk is undulating. If these walks sound too strenuous a guide will pick you up at 8.15am and take you straight to breakfast. You do not need to make up your mind which walk you want to do until the morning, as all walkers will be picked up at the same time. Cameras are a must and water bottles should be carried, especially for people doing the longer walks. Short walk suits people with no respiratory trouble. Long walk suits people who regularly exercise.   The afternoon sees the last 10 guests board the horse & cart for their tour of the island with all other guests having another free afternoon to explore or just relax.
