Murrumbateman Wine Region Tasting

Saturday 23rd September 2017

Who doesn’t like a nice glass of white or red wine on a Saturday when there isn’t a care in the world of getting caught drink driving? Let us take that worry away from you with our Wine tasting tour. The Murrumbateman wine region is an award winning grape growing area right here on our doorstep.

Our first stop is – Helm Wines was established in 1973 and was one of the first commercial wineries in the Canberra District Wine Region. Helm Wines tasting room is the 1888 Toual Public School House which is listed by the National Trust and was the inspiration for the school bell featured on our label. It was once used for meetings of the Temperance League, where locals signed the pledge against alcohol.

Second – The Four Winds Story began with a miner and his wife who lived on the property in a slab-hut. Her name was Scheherazade, after the story teller in The Arabian Nights. Her favourite story describes a magic carpet being borne by the four winds of good fortune. She named this small farm in Murrumbateman ‘Four Winds’ in the hope it would carry their good fortunes. We stop here for homemade wood fired pizza lunch (not Gluten Fee)

Next, we have a break from wine tasting to taste the honey mead of old at Wins Creek Meadery. Wins keep bees in native eucalypt forests and woodlands where they produce honey from species such as spotted gum, stringybark and yellow box. This is the honey we use to produce small batches of some of Australia’s finest handcrafted meads. It’s a great place to stop.

Last but by no means least – Gallaghers Winery. Over the last forty years Greg has been involved in premium wine production in some of Australia’s best wine regions. He was the Senior Winemaker for Taltarni, in central Victoria, worked at Charles Sturt University and has also made wine in the Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, Mildura and Rutherglen areas.

$95 p/p – includes transport from the  Bowlo Batemans Bay to wine region & return, all tastings, lunch at Four Winds winery, and the expert viogniers explaining their wines.

$105 will get you picked up from the ‘normal’ bus stops between Moruya, Broulee, Mossy Point, Tomakin, Malua Bay, Surfbeach, Caseys Beach, Batehaven, Catalina & Surfside.
