Oberon and surrounding area tour including Mayfield & Gairloch Gardens
And a Magical Mystery day tour
29 Sep – 3 Oct 2019
In the midst of dramatic natural landscapes that give way to a mosaic of pine forests and rolling farmlands, lies Oberon, a small rural community with a population of 3700. Situated on a plateau at a height of 1130m above sea level, Oberon is on the western fall of the Blue Mountains. The area is popular for its cool summers, snowy winters and its four distinct seasons.
Oberon is one of the first genuine rural communities west of the Blue Mountains and is still dependent on its rural industries. The reasons to visit this beautiful part of the world are many and varied. Some come for the spectacular scenery, Jenolan Caves, Mayfield and other fabulous cool climate gardens, while others enjoy the magic of winter snow or to simply experience a rural lifestyle. Oberon has its own alpine lake, its own local council and enjoys a great sense of community spirit.
Join us for a fantastic four day trip.
DAY 1: We depart Batemans Bay and head to Bungendore for Carol’s famous morning tea before proceeding up the highway to Riversdale Historic Homestead for lunch and a tour of this marvellous homestead. Then it’s a picturesque drive up through the Abercrombie’s to Oberon, where we will stay for the next 4 nights at the Big Trout Motel.
DAY 2: After a full buffet breakfast our guide – Kevin will join our bus this morning. We depart motel at approx 8.30am for a town tour & visit to the beautiful Gairloch garden (This garden has been featured on Better Homes & Gardens). We will enjoy a picnic lunch in town and then we start our tour at Mayfield Gardens, an amazing 120 acre cool climate garden. Returning to our motel in time for a 2 course dinner.
DAY 3: You can look forward to a full day of exploring the interesting villages of Rockley, Trunkey Creek and Nevell on the way to Carcoar, the third oldest town west of the mountains. We head back to the motel for a rest before consuming the delightful dinner prepared for us.
